EXHIBITION STATEMENT

For those who live among the city's skyscrapers, the natural world often appears fragmented and incomplete. The ground is paved and the sky is but a tiny sliver wedged between buildings. Yet so, nature not only survives but thrives in our urban environment. The artists in "Urban Nature" are alert to this fact and use their work as a means to explore the relationship between nature and the built environment. Each of the seven artists bears witness to nature's enduring presence with a unique perspective. Though these artists may use different materials and methods, they are all linked in their desire to explore our relationship to nature in the contemporary world. In so doing, the importance of a co-existence between humans and nature is made manifest.
