Photographer Peter Stevens, "The Book Scout", contributed around 200 images taken in 1963 documenting nearly every aspect of a typical menhaden fishing expedition of the period to the book "Munnawhatteaug, The Last Days of the Menhaden Industry on Eastern Long Island" published in 2011 by the Southold Historical Society. Written by Geoffrey K. Fleming and Amy Kasuga Folk, the book is a must for those interested in learning more about this important aspect of local and regional history.
Peter Stevens' work has been exhibited both in New York City and on Long Island, where it has been featured at the Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild in Cutchogue, Long Island. He also is an antiquarian-book dealer, the former proprietor of "The Book Scout" in Greenport and of one of the North Fork's earliest contemporary art galleries, The Southold Gallery.
