OCTOBER National Book Month

An annual event to celebrate BOOKS, the National Book Festival in Wash.DC, is a celebration of the joy of books and reading. Sponsored by the Library of Congress, it gives attendees the opportunity to visit with award-winning authors, illustrators and poets who talk about and sign their books. In 2011, for the first time, The National Book Festival was a two-day event and the 2011 theme of the Festival was "Celebrating they joys of reading aloud" with emphasis on the importance of lifelong literacy, cultural preservation, and preserving digital culture.
